After selecting the trail, is the time to decide what to wear and what to bring. For hiking newbie, a good thing to say is don’t really need any special or high-tech gear, just start with things you already have unless you decided that you want to make hiking a bigger part of your life, then you can make the investment for specific gear.

What beginners can wear to hike?It is not suggested to wear jeans and regular clothes because it will get heavy and rub when it get sweaty or wet. Just wear some shirt or pants that is made by elastic, lightweight and quick-dry material.

Then, long pants or short pants which is more suitable for hiking

In cold environment, might keep you shivering. In hot environment, long pants might get too uncomfortable.

What kind of shoes should be wear?

For beginners, it is not necessary to buy the hiking boots and hiking socks. A pair of sneaker is good enough for a short hiking trip unless you have enough budget to invest your hiking habit, you may buy the lightweight hiking shoes as well as light.

What need to bring for a hike?

First, an important thing is waterproof bag. It can be a dry bag, waist pouch or backpack that can help you to keep your stuff. Then, list down the things you need and you want. Then, a cell phone can help release you out in case of emergency, and if you have a smart phone it can multitask as your compass, distance tracker, mapper, and so on. In order to keep your cell phone safe, keep it in the waterproof bag.

Then, nothing worse than coming home to arms and legs covered in bug bites (Steve, 2020) so bring along your bug spray. and you may also bring the first aid kit in case you may get injured in the trip. Beside this, bring some water and food to provide energy to you. You should be drinking 1 liter of water every two hours as a rough guideline (Steve, 2020). Depend on this you can judge how much of water you could bring in your trip. However, it also depend on your hiking environment and your needs. Great food to bring is nuts and fruits. Both of them can provide energy quickly and easy to bring.
